Augusta: The Golf City

Considering to play The Augusta National Golf Course you are required to be a member or the guest of a member it is unlikely you will have a chance to play that famous course however there are many fine courses in Augusta that are open to the public. Here are a few

Forest Hills Golf Course
1500 Comfort Rd
Augusta, GA 30909
706-394-2983
When Bobby Jones made his Grand Slam of Golf in 1930, beginning with the Southeastern Open at Forest Hills, the course earned its indelible mark in golf history. But, its rich history predates the tournament and began when the U.S. Army occupied the site during World War I as Camp Hancock. Hundreds of Army tents dotted the landscape as soldiers prepared for war. After the property was acquired by the elegant Forest Hills-Ricker Hotel, the 18-hole course was developed in 1926 by internationally famous Donald Ross. For several decades, the resort was a winter destination point for wealthy Northerners.
As the home course of Augusta State University's golf program, Forest Hills hosts the annual ASU-Cleveland Golf Invitational which draws the top collegiate teams in the nation. Among the college golfers who played in the tournament and have gone on to become champions are Phil Mickelson (1989), Justin Leonard (1992), and Davis Love III, (1981, 1982). Other notables include Larry Mize, 1987 Master's champion, and Charles Howell, 2000 NCAA champion.
